The Vanishers, by Heidi Julavits - Dreamscape Media
A wildly imaginative and emotionally intense novel about mothers and daughters, set in a surreal world in which psychic powers are a common occurrence, and regression into the past of others is the best means of obtaining information. The book is truly a mind trip, one that keeps you guessing right until the end. Priviliged to lend my voice to this tale that stays with you.
Saving Angelfish, by Michele Matheson - Iambik
When we meet Max, she’s lying on the beach, drug sick and hoping to stay clean for the day. As she flails in her attempts to find her way out of debt and off of drugs, her exhaustion deepens to desperate proportions. This was a deeply moving read - humbled by it.
Secondhand Spirits, by Juliet Blackwell - Tantor
Lily Ivory feels that she can finally fit in somewhere and conceal her "witchiness" in San Francisco. It's there that she opens her vintage clothing shop, outfitting customers both spiritually and stylistically. Just when things seem normal, a client is murdered and children start disappearing from the Bay Area. This is a quirky, delightful series told in Lily's "Texas twang." To get in the groove of Lily's voice, I did a short accent study:
